Position Summary:

Job Summary

The Medical Assistant is responsible for ensuring the well-being of patients and for providing a positive, supportive environment for patients and other staff while working in conjunction with physicians, advanced practice clinicians, front office and clinical staff. The successful Medical Assistant will have strong communication skills and a dedication to customer service and patient care.
 
This role is center-based and requires working in a clinical setting. The noise level is moderate and there is a potential for exposure to infectious diseases and blood-borne pathogens. It requires the ability to stand and sit for hours at a time (with some bending and stooping), ability to use manual dexterity in relation to clinical requirements, and ability to lift 50 lbs. Hours may vary based on location, patient volume, and business needs.
 
Our teams utilize a collaborative working model to build connections across our centers and communities. The primary center for this position is [LOCATION], though you may also operate in other local work sites on an as needed basis.
Job Requirements 
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required
  • Graduate of a Medical Assisting Program preferred
Work Experience
  • Medical Assistant experience preferred
  • Front Desk experience preferred
Required Licenses/Certifications 
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) required at the time of hire (obtained through the American Red Cross (ARC) or American Heart Association (AHA).
  • One of the following certifications is required (or must obtain within 15 months of hire):
    • CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (verified through NHA, National Healthcareer Association)
    • CMA- Certified Medical Assistant (verified through AAMA, American Association of Medical Assistant)
    • RMA- Registered Medical Assistant (verified through AMT, American Medical Technologists or AAH, American Allied Health)
    • NCMA- National Certified Medical Assistant (verified through NCCT, National Center for Competency Testing)
    • NRCMA – Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (verified through the National Association for Health Professionals)
Additionally, CPOE certification for order entry is required within two weeks of start date and must be kept active in lieu of MA certification within the first 15 months of hire. 

In lieu of an approved MA Certification, we will also except the following certifications at the time of hire: 
  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing or LPN or RN
  • EMT - Emergency Medical Technician (verified through the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians)
  • CNA - Certified Nursing Assistant
Primary Responsibilities: 
  • Complete provider orders per state and provider regulations
  • Perform Clinical Intake with patients to include taking and recording vital signs and patient history
  • Assist patients as needed with walking, transfer, specimen collection, exam preparation, etc.
  • Complete occupational health testing including such services as urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, hair testing and physicals
  • Complete patient referrals and patient callbacks daily
  • Proper, concise and complete EMR documentation and paper based documentation for all assessments and procedures
  • Other duties as assigned such as new models of care and new types of procedures, etc.
  • Manage inventory of supplies; restock exam/procedure rooms
  • Maintain clinical supplies and equipment and ensure proper storage of biohazards
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to protocol
  • Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control
